Kanawha Players has given to the community a wealth of theatrical productions
more than 88 years. Yet ticket sale income only accounts for a small percentage
the revenue we need to sustain us. Your gifts of money and property to Kanawha
Players benefit us both. Well-planned charitable giving can significantly enhance
your ability to meet financial and estate objectives for your family. You may
realize significant tax advantages and even income from your gift. On our side, your gift helps Kanawha Players produce quality theatrical experiences
in a nurturing community environment while providing facilities, education, training
and encouragement to anyone interested in dramatic arts.
We welcome your gifts and contributions of any amount. Large gift giving is a
thoughtful process, and the Kanawha Players board urges you to consult your
estate planner, attorney or financial advisor before making a large gift to any
organization.

Costumes, Props, and Set Pieces
While storage is limited, Kanawha Players is often in search of just the right prop or costume to get a production on the stage. Period clothing and accessories are needed, including shoes, hats and uniforms. Distinctive small items of furniture
and wall decorations are also useful. Contemporary, everyday clothing is generally not needed.
Please see our Production Needs page for further details on current costume, prop, and set piece requests.
Building Supplies
Do you have any full or almost full gallons of paint? Large pieces of plywood?
Extra 2x4s or 4x4s from that decking project? Buckets of new wide-thread
screws? These are the things from which KP's sets are made of.

Matching Gifts
Don't miss an opportunity to potentially double the value of your contribution.
Some corporations have a matching gift program in which the company will match
individual contributions including monthly, annual or payroll deduction gifts.
Others have programs that generate corporate donations to match employee
volunteerism. Check where you work!

Donations of Securities and Investments
Donating securities and investments directly to Kanawha Players may provide
substantial savings on capital gains taxes as well as an income tax deduction.
Because of tax considerations, it is usually more beneficial to contribute securities
directly to Kanawha Players rather than selling them and giving the proceeds.
Planned Giving
Gifts of this nature should be carefully considered in relation to your comprehensive financial and estate plans. Kanawha Players and its members do not give legal or tax advice. You should consult an attorney or financial planner prior to making a planned gift due to state laws, changing tax codes, and other issues affecting planned gifts.
IRAs
It is easy to make a future gift by designating Kanawha Players as a beneficiary of
your IRA or other retirement plan without penalty while still providing for your
family. Contact the trustee who manages your retirement plan to request a
beneficiary designation form. You may then designate that a specific amount or a
percentage of the plan ultimately be donated to Kanawha Players.
Life Insurance
Choosing to name Kanawha Players as the irrevocable beneficiary and owner of a
life insurance policy may provide you with immediate and long-range income and
estate tax benefits. Because of the complexity of insurance policy gifts, donors are
encouraged to consult IRS rules and their tax advisors.
Bequests
You may choose to make a provision in your will for Kanawha Players. These
bequest and trust arrangements often allow donors to provide significant and
meaningful financial support for Kanawha Players above and beyond that which is
possible through a current gift. Such gifts are very important to the long-term
future of Kanawha Players and are encouraged in conjunction with a current gift.
You can make:
- A bequest of a specific amount;
- A bequest of a specific asset, such as marketable securities or real estate;
- A bequest of a percentage of your estate;
- The remainder of your estate; or
- A contingent bequest only if certain other beneficiaries predecease you.
